Sommières earth is a natural clay originating from the village of Sommières, in the Gard. Composed of hydrated magnesium and aluminum silicate, it is known for its absorbent properties, being able to absorb up to 80% of its weight in water. It is ideal for removing greasy stains (such as butter or makeup) and liquids (such as wine). Thanks to its fine texture, it easily penetrates the fibers of delicate surfaces such as fabrics, leathers and wood, without leaving any residue. Why is Sommières earth effective?

Fuller's earth works by dehydrating and killing bedbugs and other crawling insects (like cockroaches and fleas), similar to diatomaceous earth, another natural insecticide. According to one study, exposure to it for just three minutes is enough to kill bedbugs. Additionally, a contaminated bedbug can infect and kill its fellow bugs, increasing the effectiveness of the treatment. Unlike diatomaceous earth, which must be left in place for 15 days, Fuller's earth works quickly.

How to use Sommières earth?

In case of bed bug infestation, it is recommended to sprinkle Sommières earth on the bed bases. It kills the bed bugs in 24 hours. Also apply it to other bed bug locations such as skirting boards, wooden slats and bed feet. After application, rub and vacuum the powder. This method should be used in addition to the usual treatments, such as washing at 60 degrees.
